Baby Girl Crocheted cap/hat pattern

Size: 6 – 12 months
Fits: 16.5 - 17.5” head

Finished measurements: Aprox. 17” circumference. Height: Aprox. 5.5”
from top center to bottom edge.

Yarn: Worsted weight About 1/2 skein or less.

Hook: 5mm (US H), 4mm (US G) for bottom edge and brim.
Gauge: Rounds 1-3 = Aprox. 2.5” diameter

Cap:

Beginning Chain: Chain 4, join with sl st in first ch to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1 HDC now and throughout), 11 HDC in ring for
a total of 12 HDC. Join with sl st in 2nd chain of beginning chain 2.
Round 2: Ch 2, HDC in same st as joining. 2 HDC in each stitch around –
24 HDC total. Join as before.
Round 3: Ch 2, HDC in same st as joining. HDC in next 2 sts, *2 HDC
into next st, HDC in next 2 sts; Repeat from * – 32 HDC total. Join.
Round 4: Ch 2, HDC in same st as joining. HDC in next 3 sts, *2 HDC
into next st, HDC in next 3 sts; Repeat from * – 40 HDC total. Join.
Round 5: Ch 2, HDC in same st as joining. HDC in next 4 sts, *2 HDC
into next st, HDC in next 4 sts; Repeat from * – 48 HDC total. Join.
Round 6: Ch 2, HDC in same st as joining. HDC in next 5 sts, *2 HDC
into next st, HDC in next 5 sts; Repeat from * – 56 HDC total. Join.

Fitting Note: At this point the circumference should be around 16”. If you
wish to make the cap larger or smaller, add or subtract rounds until the
circumference is about 1” smaller than head size. Continue with pattern as
written, cap should end up slightly shorter if rounds are decreased or taller if
increased.

Rounds 7 - 13: Ch 2, HDC in next st and each st around – No increase. Join.

-Switch to 4mm/Size G hook

Round 14: Ch 1, SC in same st and each st around. Join.

-Begin Brim/Visor:

Row 1: Ch1, SC in same st and next 19 sts. Ch1, turn.
Row 2: Skip 1st st, SC in next st, work 2 SC into next 16 sts, SC next st, sl st
into last st. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Skip 1st st, SC in next st, SC next 2 sts together, SC across until 4
sts left. SC next 2 sts together, SC next st, sl st into last st. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Skip 1st st, SC in next st, SC next 2 sts tog., SC next 4 sts, SC next 2
sts tog., SC next 12 sts, SC next 2 sts tog., SC next 4 sts, SC next 2 sts tog.,
SC next st, sl st into last st. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Skip 1st st, SC in next st, SC next 2 sts tog., *SC next 4 sts, SC next
2 sts tog.; Repeat from * until 3 sts left. SC next 2 sts tog., SC in next st, sl
st into last st. Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: Skip 1st st, SC in next st and each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Repeat Row 6. Fasten off.

Edging:
Attach contrast yarn at center back of cap. Slip stitch around bottom edge of
cap until start of brim/visor. Ch1, SC into sides and front edge of brim,
switching back to a slip stitch around bottom edge of cap and joining with
beginning of edging at center back. Fasten off. If you want an edging with
a bit more stretch, work SC around bottom edge of cap as well as brim.
Contrast letter is worked using a slip stitch over front of cap.

HDC = Half Double Crochet
SC = Single Crochet
Sl St = Slip Stitch
Tog. = Together
Single Crochet 2 stitches together: (Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over

Row 10: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in each sc across, turn.
Rows 11-12: Repeat Row 7.
Row 13: Sc2tog, *sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, sc2tog (sc in last 2 sts), turn – 92 (98) sts.
Row 14: Repeat Row 10.

FINISHING
Weave tail through last sts and pull tight. Sew back seam closed.
