Crocheted Slouchy Beret Pattern


You can make this in a full color, two color (like this one) or multiple.
Directions are for Small; changes for Medium are in parentheses.
Head Circumference: 20 (22)”

Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]
Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 13 sc = 4”. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any
size hook to obtain the gauge.
 RED HEART®  3 oz (85 g), 145 yd
(132 m) balls.

ABBREVIATIONS: ch = chain; mm = millimeters;
sc = single crochet; st(s) = stitch (es); tog = together;
yo = yarn over; * = repeat whatever follows the * as
indicated; [ ] = work directions in brackets the number of
times specified.
Special Abbreviations:
sc2tog (sc dec) = Insert hook into st and draw up a loop.
Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over,
draw through all 3 loops on hook.
tr2tog = (Yo twice and insert the hook into the next st, yarn
over, draw up a loop, yarn over, and draw through 2 of the
loops on hook ) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3
loops on hook.

HAT
Ch 65 (73).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 64 (72) sc.
Rows 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.
Row 6: Ch 4 (counts as tr), *2 tr in next 3 (2) sc, tr in next sc; repeat from * to last 0 (3) sc, tr in last 0 (3) sc,
              turn – 112 (118) sts.
Rows 7-9: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 10: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in each sc across, turn.
Rows 11-12: Repeat Row 7.
Row 13: Sc2tog, *sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, sc2tog (sc in last 2 sts), turn – 92 (98) sts.
Row 14: Repeat Row 10.
Rows 15-16: Repeat Row 7.
Row 17: Ch 1, sc in next 4 (2) sc, *sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * across, turn – 70 (74) sts.
Row 18: Repeat Row 10.
Rows 19-20: Repeat Row 7.
Row 21: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * to last 1 (2) sts, sc in last 1 (2) sts, turn – 47 (50) sts.
Row 22: Ch 4 (counts as tr), *tr2tog, tr in next st; repeat
from * to last st, tr in last st, turn – 32 (34) sts.
Row 23: Repeat Row 7.
Row 24: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, sc2tog; repeat from * to last 2 (1) sts, sc2tog (sc in last st), turn – 21 (23) sts.
Row 25: Repeat Row 7.
Row 26: Ch 1, [sc2tog] across to last st, sc in last st, turn – 11 (12) sts.
Row 27: Ch 1, sc in next 1 (0) st, [sc2tog] across, turn – 6 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

FINISHING
Weave tail through last sts and pull tight. Sew back seam closed.
Weave in ends.
